Millionaire businessman and Netflix star Dave Fishwick watched as council workers took his bin in Ribble Valley, Lancashire, on Thursday afternoon. The incident, captured on CCTV, initially appeared to be a theft before the local authority clarified the bin was damaged and would be replaced.
CCTV Footage Shows Bin Being Taken
According to Mr. Fishwick, the footage shows two rubbish collectors grabbing his bin and placing it in their truck while shouting, “go, go.” The 55-year-old, whose life inspired the Netflix film Bank of Dave, shared the video on social media, prompting followers to warn of rising bin thefts in the area.
Mr. Fishwick, founder of the community-focused Bank of Dave in Burnley, has loaned over £30 million to locals for expenses like funerals and IVF treatments. The non-profit bank, which reinvests surplus funds into good causes, gained fame after its story was adapted into a 2023 Netflix biopic starring Rory Kinnear and Phoebe Dynevor.
Council Confirms Bin Replacement
Ribble Valley Borough Council later stated the bin had a broken lip and could not be lifted by the truck’s equipment. Councillor Stuart Hirst confirmed a free replacement would be delivered the following day. The council noted it is the only one in Lancashire offering weekly general rubbish collections and free bin replacements.
Mr. Fishwick, who emphasized the importance of shredding confidential documents to prevent data theft, called the incident “bizarre” but confirmed his household already follows strict disposal practices. He and his wife, Nicky, were left without a bin until the replacement arrived.
