The US Consulate General in Toronto was the target of a shooting incident early Monday, marking the second time in four months that shots have been fired at the diplomatic building.
Second Shooting at Toronto Consulate
Toronto police responded to reports of at least one shot fired outside the US Consulate General. Officers discovered a shell casing at the scene, and damage was observed on the building’s facade. No injuries were reported.
Authorities stated a white sedan was seen leaving the area at approximately 5am local time. Police initiated a brief pursuit of the vehicle but terminated it due to its excessive speed, citing safety concerns.
As of Monday, no suspects have been apprehended, and the investigation into the shooting remains active. A spokesperson for the US Department of State confirmed Washington is cooperating closely with Canadian law enforcement agencies following the incident.
Previous Incidents and Investigation
Toronto police declined to comment on potential motives for the recent shooting or any possible links to previous events. This incident echoes a similar event on March 10, when shots were also fired at the same consulate.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford issued a statement expressing his expectation that those responsible will be identified, prosecuted, and subjected to the full extent of legal penalties.
In June, Toronto police outlined concerns that young individuals in the area were reportedly being recruited via encrypted messaging applications to carry out and record shootings against various targets, including synagogues, Jewish schools, a waste management company, and the US Consulate. Police stated these investigations were ongoing and conducted in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the US FBI, though specific evidence was not provided.
