Toronto police are investigating gunfire that struck the headquarters of INKAS Armoured Vehicle Manufacturing early Tuesday, damaging the facility but injuring no one. Officers responded to reports of shots near Finch Avenue West and Weston Road at 1:53 a.m.
INKAS confirms facility was targeted
INKAS, which builds bulletproof cars for banks, law enforcement, and private clients, confirmed its Toronto headquarters was hit. Chief security officer Andy Ellis said the building remains operational and no employees or visitors were harmed. Police have not released a suspect description.
The company manufactures armoured transport vehicles, executive SUVs, and special-purpose vehicles for corporate and government use. Its website also lists luxury sedans and limousines among its products.
Possible links to recent Toronto incidents
The shooting follows two other recent incidents in the city. Early Sunday, evidence of gunfire was found at two locations of Kiva’s, a Jewish-owned bakery. The next day, shots were fired near the U.S. Consulate downtown—the second such incident in four months.
Toronto police media relations manager Nadine Ramadan said the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force is leading the investigation. "Any connections to other incidents will form part of the investigation," she said. Police have not determined whether the INKAS shooting was targeted.
Calls for action amid rising tensions
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs said in a statement that INKAS provides technology to protect Ukrainians. The organization called the shooting part of a rise in politically motivated violence aimed at intimidating Canadians and urged governments to take stronger action against terrorism.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
