Utah authorities have revoked the operating licence of Provo Canyon School’s Springville campus, effective Monday, following persistent health and safety violations. The facility, where Paris Hilton has publicly alleged she endured abuse as a teenager, must cease all services by 6 August, according to state officials.
State cites repeated noncompliance at Provo Canyon School
The Utah Department of Health and Human Services detailed a litany of failures in its decision, including inadequate staff-to-client ratios, unnecessary physical restraint of a resident, and neglect of care. Investigators also found the school had not verified employee credentials or processed background checks in a timely manner. Some citations dated back to 2025.
In May, the state imposed temporary restrictions after staff failed to seek immediate medical attention for a student with serious injuries. The latest revocation letter further accused the facility of engaging in “cruel and unnecessary practices on a child” and failing to protect residents from harm or violence.
Paris Hilton reacts to licence revocation
Hilton, who attended the school in the late 1990s, welcomed the decision in a social media post on Tuesday, stating that survivors’ testimonies had “finally” led to the campus’s closure. She has previously testified before Congress and state legislatures about her experiences, which she claims included physical abuse, forced medication, and solitary confinement.
The school, now under new ownership, has 15 days to request a hearing. In a statement to CBS News, Provo Canyon School expressed disagreement with the revocation and said it was evaluating legal options. Officials confirmed that the facility may not reapply for a licence for five years, though weekly inspections will continue until the closure deadline.
