Manitoba RCMP have recovered the body of 10-year-old Maximo Au Ramirez, one of two brothers missing since Saturday in Nutimik Lake. The search for his 13-year-old brother, Aaron Au Ramirez, is ongoing. Authorities are scheduled to provide a media update on Thursday.
Nutimik Lake Search Efforts Underway
The recovery of Maximo Au Ramirez's body occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The tragic incident unfolded on Saturday in Whiteshell Provincial Park, where both brothers were swept into the lake. Police have confirmed the identity of the recovered child.
The search operation involves multiple agencies and resources. Coordinated efforts include volunteer and RCMP boats, police drones, and the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART). These teams have been actively searching the waters of Nutimik Lake since the boys disappeared.
Circumstances of Disappearance
According to police accounts, the younger brother, Maximo, was swept into the lake first. His older brother, Aaron, reportedly dove into the water in an attempt to rescue him. Both boys became caught in the lake's current on July 18.
RCMP officials will address reporters at 12 p.m. central time on Thursday. The press conference is scheduled to take place at the boat launch of Nutimik Campground, located on the shores of Nutimik Lake where the disappearance took place.
