The mother of Henry Nowak’s killer has been jailed for three years after removing the murder weapon from the scene. Kiran Kaur, 53, was sentenced at Southampton Crown Court on Friday for assisting an offender.

Her son, Vickrum Digwa, 23, stabbed finance student Henry Nowak, 18, to death with a Sikh ceremonial knife on a Southampton street on December 3, 2025. Kaur later took the knife to the family home, where it was placed among other weapons in Digwa’s bedroom.

Court’s reasoning for the sentence

Judge William Mousley KC stated that a responsible parent would have challenged their son’s actions. Instead, Kaur concealed the knife, which the judge said would have helped obscure its use in the murder.

During Digwa’s trial, it emerged he had lied to police, falsely claiming Nowak had racially abused him. Body-worn footage later showed Nowak in handcuffs moments before he lost consciousness and died. Two Hampshire officers involved in the arrest are under investigation for potential gross misconduct.

Ongoing legal proceedings

Digwa was sentenced to life in prison in June, with a minimum term of 21 years, for Nowak’s murder. The Solicitor General referred the sentence to the Court of Appeal as unduly lenient. Digwa is also appealing his conviction and sentence.

Digwa, his brother, and his father have been charged with multiple weapons offenses, including possession of 37 swords, flick-knives, an axe, and eight knuckledusters. They pleaded not guilty in a July court appearance. The offenses are dated December 4, 2025—the day after Nowak’s murder.
