Nova Scotia crews are battling an out-of-control wildfire northeast of Halifax, with the blaze now covering nearly 14 square kilometres after revised mapping removed non-burned areas like water bodies from earlier estimates.
The fire, located on Mooseland Road, prompted a mandatory evacuation order Thursday for 100 to 150 residents in the rural area. Local and provincial teams have fought the flames since Wednesday, with support from two Newfoundland and Labrador water bombers, two Nova Scotia helicopters, and four provincial fixed-wing water bombers.
Wildfire Response and Revised Size
Provincial officials adjusted the fire’s size downward from an initial 17 square kilometres reported Friday, citing more precise data. A spokesperson confirmed the reduction reflects excluded non-combustible zones.
Next Steps and Updates
Nova Scotia’s Natural Resources Department plans to provide another update this afternoon. The province continues to monitor the situation as crews work to contain the spread.
