The 1.2% adjustment for the July-to-September 2026 period marks the largest single-quarter OAS increase since October 2024, when benefits climbed 1.3%. The change reflects a quarterly reassessment tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which rose 2.8% year-over-year in June 2026, down from 3.2% in May, according to Statistics Canada. The next CPI update is scheduled for August 17.

Service Canada noted the latest adjustment brings cumulative OAS growth to 2.3% since July 2025. Payments will be deposited Wednesday for those enrolled in direct deposit, while mailed cheques will arrive shortly after. Unlike OAS, Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits remain unchanged, as they are adjusted annually in January.

Eligibility for the maximum OAS payment depends on age, net income, and residency. For July 2026, recipients aged 65 to 74 must have an annual net income below $152,062 to receive the full $751.97, up from $743.05. Those 75 and older qualify for $827.17 (previously $817.36) if their income is under $157,923.
