Jared Leto admitted to sending used condoms and adult toys to his "Suicide Squad" co-stars as part of his method acting for the Joker character. The actor revealed the controversial practice in resurfaced footage from a 2016 E! News interview.
Leto's 'Full Joker' Approach
The actor stated he engaged in the behavior to "create a dynamic" and "element of surprise" on set, aiming to break down boundaries. Leto explained his actions were in service of embodying the Joker, a character he described as not respecting personal space.
In the interview, Leto humorously told the interviewer, "I know it’s a family show, but we can educate people, at least they were used." He admitted sending the items to "everybody" in the cast.
Co-Stars React to Leto's Gifts
Margot Robbie, who portrayed Harley Quinn, was not entirely surprised by the gifts, noting she had begun to understand the Joker persona. However, she acknowledged that Leto often kept the cast guessing about his next move.
Will Smith, who played Deadshot, characterized Leto's actions as going "full Joker." Smith observed that Leto was "dead serious" and committed 100 percent to the role, which he stated "jarred the rest of us."
Recent Allegations Surface
The resurfaced footage emerges amid recent accusations of sexual misconduct against Leto. Four women have accused the actor of misconduct when they were teenagers, detailed in the BBC documentary "Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret."
Nine other women previously accused the musician of sexual impropriety in June 2025. Leto has denied all allegations, stating in a recent statement to Page Six that the new claims are "absolutely and categorically false." He asserted, "I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life."
