Toronto police are investigating the vandalism of two Jewish-owned bakeries, part of the same chain, which occurred early Sunday morning, with at least one incident involving evidence of shots being fired.
Jewish Bakeries Targeted in Toronto Vandalism
Authorities were alerted to the incidents on Sunday, with the first report of gunfire striking a window at Kiva’s Bagel Bar, located at Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue West, coming in at approximately 8:12 a.m. Shortly thereafter, around 8:30 a.m., police received a separate report detailing a broken window at another Kiva's establishment on Steeles Avenue West; however, no evidence of a firearm being discharged was found at this second location.
Investigation Underway by Guns and Gangs Unit
The Toronto police’s guns and gangs and hate crime units have taken charge of the investigation into the coordinated vandalism. Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury indicated on Sunday that officers would be conducting neighbourhood canvassing efforts, which would naturally lead to an increased police presence in the affected areas.
While it has been confirmed that both Kiva's Bagel Bar locations belong to the same bakery chain, investigators have yet to establish any definitive connections between the two incidents beyond their shared ownership and the nature of the attacks.
