Iran and the U.S. have intensified strikes on civilian infrastructure, including bridges, utilities, and port facilities, after Tehran declared the interim peace deal abandoned.

The escalation follows a week of back-and-forth attacks, with Iran targeting Gulf neighbors—Kuwait, Jordan, and Qatar—in retaliation for U.S. strikes. Kuwait endured one of its heaviest barrages since the conflict began in late February, with hits on its airport and an oil facility, triggering sirens from dawn on Saturday.

Peace deal collapse and U.S. strikes

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi announced on state TV that Iran had suspended its commitments under the 60-day ceasefire brokered by Pakistan. The deal aimed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and curb Iran’s nuclear program while negotiations continued.

“The U.S. trampled on and stopped all of its commitments, and under the memorandum known as the Islamabad memorandum of understanding we too have stopped all our commitments and we’re not currently implementing them,” Gharibabadi said.

Civilian targets and casualties

Iranian officials reported U.S. attacks on civilian sites, including water desalination plants, bridges, and over 100 telecommunications towers. They stated that 50 people have been killed and more than 500 injured in U.S. strikes since June 27.

Kuwait’s state-run news agency reported “significant material losses” at an oil site, leading to evacuations and injuries. Kuwait Airways rescheduled flights, and firefighting efforts were underway at a struck power and desalination plant. The Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law.

U.S. military response

U.S. Central Command confirmed a seventh night of strikes against Iran, targeting surveillance sites, military logistics, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities. The conflict has not yet reached the scale of March and April, when the U.S. and Israel bombarded Iranian cities and Tehran launched thousands of drones and missiles at Gulf states and Israel.
