Trae Young reaffirmed his status as a New York Knicks villain on Saturday, attempting to rip a Jalen Brunson jersey during Fanatics Fest at the Javits Center.
The Washington Wizards guard tugged at the blue road jersey before tossing it into the crowd, drawing boos from fans in attendance. The stunt followed a Friday Instagram post where Young shared a clip of himself watching his 2021 playoff highlights against the Knicks, captioned, “When I’m in NYC this how I ride around.”
Trae Young’s history with the Knicks
Young’s rivalry with New York dates back to the 2021 postseason, when his Atlanta Hawks eliminated the Knicks in the first round. Five years later, the guard—now with Washington—keeps the feud alive.
His time in Atlanta ended in January with a trade to the Wizards, where he played just five games before being shut down for the season. This offseason, Young signed a four-year, $212 million contract to remain in Washington.
Wizards’ roster outlook
The Wizards missed the playoffs but are building around Young, Anthony Davis, and No. 1 draft pick AJ Dybantsa. The franchise also added Alex Sarr, Tre Johnson, and Will Riley as it aims for a postseason return.
