A wildfire burning northeast of Halifax has grown to nearly 14 square kilometres, with crews continuing to fight the blaze on Mooseland Road. The fire, first reported Wednesday, prompted a mandatory evacuation order for an estimated 100 to 150 residents.
Fire size revised after mapping
Nova Scotia’s Natural Resources Department initially estimated the fire at 17 square kilometres but revised the figure after more precise mapping excluded bodies of water from the total. The adjustment reflects ongoing efforts to track the fire’s spread accurately.
Response efforts and resources
Aerial support includes two fixed-wing water bombers from Newfoundland and Labrador, alongside Nova Scotia’s two helicopters and four fixed-wing bombers. Local and provincial crews have been battling the fire since it began.
