An Oklahoma social media influencer was fatally shot by her estranged husband after she publicly accused him of being a paedophile in a viral TikTok video, police have confirmed. Sara Gilson, 32, died alongside Jeremiah Duffey, 34, in what authorities describe as an apparent murder-suicide at her Collinsville home on 20 June.

TikTok video sparked viral outrage before killing

Gilson posted the video on 7 June, days after learning Duffey—known online as "Shawn Duffey"—had been accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl he coached in youth basketball. The clip, captioned "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile," amassed nearly 18 million views.

She added the hashtags #plottwist and #documentary, framing the allegation as part of a social media trend where users joke about dramatic life events. Police records show Gilson filed for an emergency protective order against Duffey on 10 June, citing fears for her safety.

Child molestation allegations preceded protective order

The accusations against Duffey surfaced on 6 June when the mother of a teenage basketball player reported him to police. According to The Oklahoman, the girl claimed Duffey had "kissed and fondled her" during a tournament, an incident witnessed by another coach.

Officers arrived to find both Gilson and Duffey dead from gunshot wounds to the head. Their 12-year-old son was taken into protective custody; the status of Gilson’s daughter remains unclear. Police have not released further details pending the ongoing investigation.

What happens next in the case

While authorities have ruled the incident a murder-suicide, the Tulsa County District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case for potential charges. The basketball league where Duffey coached has suspended all ties with him pending the outcome. Gilson’s family has not yet commented publicly.
