Anthropic has upgraded its Claude voice mode, allowing users to select from three AI models—Opus, Sonnet, or Haiku—for more capable and flexible conversations. The update, announced Thursday, automatically defaults to the fastest version of the last model used in text chat, improving response times for complex tasks.

The upgraded voice mode now supports longer interactions, including feedback on communication styles, client pitch rehearsals, and product market research brainstorming. Unlike OpenAI’s voice mode, which focuses on conversational improvements, Claude’s update emphasizes productivity by connecting to tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Canva, and Notion.

Users can now ask Claude to reschedule meetings, draft emails, or create Notion documents—functionality not yet available in OpenAI’s competing system. However, free users are limited to the Haiku model and a single connected app.

Multilingual Support and Availability

Earlier this year, Anthropic introduced multilingual voice mode in beta, requiring users to manually specify their language. Currently, the feature supports English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish (Latin America/Spain).

The new voice mode is available in beta across all platforms. Anthropic has not altered the underlying voice model or detailed its technical stack, meaning users may not see improvements in interruption handling or conversational fluidity compared to OpenAI’s recent updates.
