Defence counsel for Sukhpreet Singh and Ramandeep Kaur, charged in connection with a Halifax newborn's death, have requested an adjournment to review extensive disclosure materials. The pair are accused of concealing the infant's body and related offences.

Sukhpreet Singh, 23, and his wife Ramandeep Kaur, 26, appeared virtually before a judge on Friday. They face charges of concealing the body of a child and indignity to human remains. Additional charges include resisting a peace officer and obstruction of justice.
For context, the case originated from an urgent search in May for a missing newborn. Tragically, the remains were later discovered in a wooded area near Goodwood, Nova Scotia. The investigation began when the newborn's mother was admitted to hospital in critical condition following what appeared to be a recent birth. She remained unresponsive and died in hospital the following week.
Legal Proceedings and Disclosure Review
Both defence lawyers cited a significant volume of disclosure as the reason for seeking to adjourn the election and plea. This disclosure includes critical documents such as the medical examiner's reports, which are currently under review.
Singh has been identified by police as a relative of the deceased newborn's mother. Both Singh and Kaur remain in custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for September 14, when they are expected to appear via video link again.
