A career minor leaguer in his seventh year, he signed with the Yankees as a free agent in December after stalling in Cleveland’s system. His four-pitch arsenal, led by a sweeper that generates whiffs, has limited opponents to a 1.156 WHIP, with frequent multi-inning outings.
Yankees Bullpen Outlook
The Yankees are expected to bolster their bullpen before the trade deadline, but Hanner’s addition to the 40-man roster positions him as a potential call-up. He joins Yovanny Cruz, Kervin Castro, and Yerry De los Santos as SWB pitchers already on the 40-man roster.
Injury Updates and Schedule Changes
Saturday’s game against the Dodgers in the Bronx was postponed, creating a split-admission doubleheader Sunday. Tickets for the original game can be used for the 12:35 p.m. matinee or exchanged for another regular-season game.
Max Fried, recovering from an elbow bone bruise, threw 52 pitches in three innings for SWB on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits. Manager Aaron Boone said Fried “looked really good” and will pitch again in five days. Giancarlo Stanton (calf strain) is doing “some running” but has not yet progressed to base-running, Boone noted.
